Being an In-Law

My sister got married on Saturday. It was a great day! We had a ton of fun. And now I have a brother-in-law, which is something I was really dreading. However, the strangest thing happened. Annie and I had talked about how after the ceremony everything is different and yet nothing is different in their relationship. Come to find out, the same was true for me. For years I've told Annie that I just didn't think this was the best idea and -truthfully- part of that was due to the fact that I just didn't want him to be a part of my family forever. He's a great guy, but we have very different personalities and different interests. In fact, I'd venture to say that aside from our mutual love for Annie, we have next to nothing in common. However, when I made the introduction, I said this:

"Ladies and gentlemen, it is with great pride that I introduce to you my sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jai Hartigan."

And a little tear formed in the corner of my eye. Jai is my brother-in-law and suddenly that was a good thing!

I like it.
I'm glad he's a part of our family.
And I'm glad he loves my sister so very, very much!
Welcome to the fam, Jai!
