Amazing Little Miracle

Do you remember this little angel?

Do you remember that she was just 9" long. Yes, 9 inches. She was just 370 grams. The tiniest baby her doctor had ever known at Vanderbilt Hospital. Her whole hand was smaller than her momma's first joint on her pinky finger. She had wires and cords and monitors everywhere. Her belly was hugely swollen and her doctors couldn't get it to go down. She was precious and sweet and amazing.

Today ...
Today she is still tiny. Today she still has a few little cords and wires. But she's amazing. She's growing like a weed. She's over 3 pounds now (right, Nance?) and so full of life.

It's hard to believe that this little girl - in this little pink onesie is the very same baby that was considered all but dead in the spring. Nancy bought some preemie onesies that weekend because she "had to do something for [her] baby. " Nancy's most amazing words, I'll never forget: "I just can't sit around and wait for her to die."

I guess she showed that doctor what a Speas woman is all about!

Nancy, John, and precious little Becca, know that you are always in my thoughts and prayers. Know that I rejoice with you over every little success. Every little setback sends me back to the earliest days of her life, anxious and fearful and sad. And those are so far between now that sometimes I forget she even has them. She is an inspiration to me.

I love you three! Praying you are all home soon.
